Juvenile Crime Prevention
Prevention of juvenile delinquent behavior is vital for our criminal justice policy. It is critical to prevent crime from happening in the first place: the more we can stop young people entering the criminal justice system, the more we reduce the risk for them getting into even worse trouble in the future.
Juvenile Diversion and Mediation Program
In July of 2010, Georgian Criminal Procedure Code was amended and discretionary prosecution was introduced. The new rules made it possible to develop programs, such as Juvenile Diversion and Mediation Program. If the prosecutor has a reasonable doubt that a juvenile has committed a less grave crime for the first time, he/she may decide to divert the juvenile away from criminal prosecution.
My Senior Friend
This is a mentoring program, which is being implemented jointly by the Ministry of Justice and the UN Association of Georgia. The program aims to work with youth who have certain sets of problems in their lives and are in need of extra positive impact. The idea behind the program is to match the junior and senior friends, based on the similar personalities, interests and hobbies.
Choice is Yours
The Choice Is Yours is a new prevention program, which is implemented jointly by the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Education and Science and the civil society institution. The program aims at bringing young and successful alumni back to their schools.
Community Work for Juveniles
Availability of community work option tailored for juveniles is another way of ensuring that juveniles are able to engage in the retribution process for the crime which they committed.
Diversion for Carrying Knives
In partnership with civil society, the Ministry of Justice will soon launch a new program aimed at engaging juveniles who carry knifes into a specially designed program. The program will allow them to go through a healthy lifestyle course.
Community Prosecutors Program
It has been five years since the Chief Prosecutor's Office launched its Community Prosecution Campaign. Since then, the campaign has been spreading out rapidly. Currently 15, out of a total of 28 prosecutorial districts are involved in the implementation of the program.
The E-book Program for Juveniles
The E-book Program is a community work option for juveniles in Tbilisi. This program is being implemented jointly by MoJ and civil society.
