The Strasbourg Court Strikes Out Saakashvili

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has ruled out Mikheil Saakashvili's application regarding his ill-treatment and improper medical treatment in the penitentiary system.

The European Court finds no special circumstances relating to respect for human rights in this case which require the present application to be considered.

The decision of the European Court once again confirms that the rights and interests of Mikheil Saakashvili are fully protected in the penitentiary system in accordance with the standards of the ECHR.

Mikheil Saakashvili claimed that he was ill-treated and and has not undergone proper medical treatment in the penitentiary system.

Competition Announced for the Selection of Georgian Candidates for Judges of the European Court of Human Rights

A competition has been announced for the selection of candidates from Georgia for the position of Judge of the European Court of Human Rights. The competition will be conducted in accordance with the rules approved by Order No. 1139 of the Minister of Justice of Georgia, dated 17 December 2025.

Candidates selected through the competition will be nominated on behalf of Georgia to participate in the election of Judges of the European Court of Human Rights of the Council of Europe, to be held in 2026.

Interested applicants must submit their applications no later than 19 January 2026.
