General Inspection of the Ministry of Justice Arrests Two Persons for Attempting to Illegally Purchase and Possess Drugs and Transfer them to a Convict in a Penitentiary institution

As a result of investigative and procedural actions carried out in cooperation with the Special Penitentiary Service and the Chief Prosecutor’s Office, based on the court decision, the General Inspectorate of the Ministry of Justice arrested B.M. And T.M on the fact of attempting to transfer drugs to a prisoner in a penitentiary institution.

The investigation established that on December 29, 2021, a parcel sent by T.M. through the Georgian Post Ltd entered the parcel department of the №15 penitentiary institution to be handed over to the convict. During the inspection of the parcel by the staff of the Special Penitentiary Service, it was found that the belt of the sports pants contained drug - buprenorphine.

As for B.M., the investigation established that he had placed a jacket containing heroin in a parcel sent by the Georgian Post Ltd. to be handed over to a convict placed in №15 Penitentiary Institution.

The General Inspectorate of the Ministry of Justice continues its investigation into the criminal case and states that as before, it will strictly follow the law and continue to fight crime in the system of the Ministry of Justice.

Minister of Justice Meets with Prosecutor General of the Kyrgyz Republic, Otkurbek Dzhamshitov

During the meeting with Otkurbek Dzhamshitov, Rati Bregadze emphasized the importance of deepening mutual cooperation and sharing experiences between the two countries in the realm of justice enforcement.

Moreover, Rati Bregadze underscored the ongoing reforms spearheaded by the Ministry of Justice, particularly in the realms of digitalization and cybersecurity.

Discussions at the meeting also revolved around the potential for knowledge exchange between the Ministry of Justice of Georgia and Kyrgyzstan, encompassing law enforcement practices, service accessibility, and digital innovations.

As part of his visit to Georgia, the Prosecutor General of Kyrgyzstan will also meet with the leadership of the Probation Agency and gain insights into the Georgian technological innovation ProbBox, which has garnered recognition from the European Probation Confederation (CEP) as a noteworthy European-scale innovation. The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Justice, Beka Dzamashvili and Head of International Relations and Legal Cooperation Department, Ketevan Sarajishvili.
