Interagency Coordinating Council for Implementation of Private Law Reform
The Interagency council is chaired by the Minister of Justice of Georgia. The members of the Council are the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development and his deputy, the Deputy Minister of Justice, the Parliamentary Secretary of the Government of Georgia, the Chairman of the Legal Affairs Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, the heads of several structural divisions of the Ministry of Justice and legal entities under public law. Along with state agencies, representatives of non-governmental and international organizations operating in the relevant field, experts and scientists may be included in the Council. Members of the Parliament and Government of Georgia, judges, heads of state agencies, representatives of non-governmental and international organizations may participate in the work of the Council.
The main tasks of the Council are:
- In accordance with the need, the development and periodic updating of strategies for the reform of individual areas of private law;
- Development of relevant proposals/recommendations and preparation of draft laws regarding the reformation of separate areas of private law;
- Coordination of the activities of the parties involved in the private law reform process.
- Proposals/recommendations and/or draft laws developed in relation to individual areas of private law are approved by the Council, and the Ministry of Justice ensures their submission to the Government of Georgia.
In order to discuss specific issues provided by the reform strategies of individual areas of private law and to develop appropriate recommendations and/or draft laws, working groups are formed in the council, which may include representatives of state agencies, non-governmental and international organizations implementing activities in the relevant field, scientists and experts.
