Department of International Relations and Legal Cooperation
Functions of the Department:
- Facilitation, management and coordination of international relations between the Ministry and the Special Penitentiary Service.
- Cooperation with partner states and international organizations and preparation of state reports for them.
- Performing the functions of the contact person and the central body of international organizations.
- Coordinating, monitoring and reporting on the implementation of human rights obligations.
- Coordinating and monitoring penitentiary reform.
- Drug monitoring in Georgia and implementation of the function of the Drug Monitoring Center.
- Implementing mutual legal assistance in civil law cases (submission of court and non-judicial materials, enforcement of court decisions, coordination of work experience).
- Implementing mutual legal assistance in criminal cases (extradition of wanted persons, transfer / receipt of convicts for further execution of sentences, transfer of wanted persons and foreign convicts, execution of sentences).
- Managing and coordinating child abduction cases.
- Consulting citizens.
Management / Coordination of Thematic Interagency Councils / Commissions and Policy Making (development of strategies and action plans, reporting, production of statistics):
1. Combatting human trafficking.
2. Drug policy.
3. Combating torture and ill-treatment.
4. Implementation of UN terrorism sanctions.
5. Implementation of international humanitarian law.
