Deputy Minister of Justice Tamar Zodelava Participates in Thematic Sessions of UN Global Event

Deputy Minister of Justice of Georgia Tamar Zodelava is participating in thematic sessions and discussions held as part of the 16th Session of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM).

As part of the session, Georgia expressed its support for the further development of the Framework for Effective Land Administration (FELA), as well as the establishment of an Effective Land Administration Hub. The initiative aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, experience, and best practices among countries and contribute to strengthening land administration systems worldwide.

Drawing on its substantial experience and expertise in land administration and geospatial information management, Georgia also expressed its readiness to join the newly established UN Expert Group on Land Administration and Management (EG-LAM). The group contributes to the development of land administration policies, key approaches, and global development priorities.

Georgia’s participation in the group will provide an opportunity to share the country’s experience and expertise in support of the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the development of the global agenda in the field.

Georgia’s participation in the 16th Session of UN-GGIM further underscores the country’s growing contribution to international efforts in land administration and geospatial information management. It also strengthens opportunities for sharing Georgia’s expertise internationally and deepening cooperation in these areas.

Competition Announced to Select Georgia’s Candidate for Membership in the Council of Europe Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings

A competition has been announced to select Georgia’s candidate for membership in the Council of Europe Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA), in accordance with the rules approved by Order No. 1228 of the Minister of Justice of Georgia on 5 August 2026.

The Council of Europe Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA) is an independent expert body within the Council of Europe system responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings. In carrying out their functions, GRETA members act independently and impartially.

Following the competition, the candidate nominated by Georgia will participate in the election of GRETA members, which will take place on 27 November 2026 during the 39th meeting of the Committee of the Parties to the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings.

Within the Framework of the 16th Session of the UN Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM), Deputy Minister of Justice of Georgia Tamar Zodelava Holds High-Level Bilateral Meetings

Within the framework of the 16th session of the UN Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM), Deputy Minister of Justice of Georgia Tamar Zodelava held a series of high-level bilateral meetings.

During a meeting with representatives of the Netherlands Agency for Cadastre, Land Registration and Cartography (Kadaster), the parties discussed ongoing reforms in Georgia and the Netherlands, with particular emphasis on digital transformation in land administration and geospatial information management.

The discussions highlighted that, drawing on their extensive experience and successful reform efforts, Georgia and the Netherlands are well positioned to jointly provide expert support to other countries and to contribute actively to the development of international guidance documents and methodological recommendations, including the Framework for Effective Land Administration (FELA), through relevant UN working groups.

The parties also explored opportunities to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, implement joint projects, and expand their engagement in global initiatives related to land administration and geospatial information management.

The meeting also reviewed the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2025 between Georgia's National Agency of Public Registry and the Netherlands Agency for Cadastre, Land Registration and Cartography. The memorandum provides a framework for the exchange of expertise and best practices, cooperation in research, development and innovation, and the implementation of joint initiatives. The parties positively assessed the progress achieved to date and reaffirmed their commitment to further expanding cooperation under the memorandum.

The meeting was also attended by Elene Grigolia, Manager of the World Bank's Sustainable Agriculture, Irrigation and Land (GRAIL) Project Subcomponent "Improving Land Administration Services and Creating Digital Governance Infrastructure," and Tamta Chanturia, Head of the Lawmaking Service of the Legal Department of the National Agency of Public Registry.

Minister of Justice Congratulates Employees of the National Agency for Crime Prevention, Non-custodial Sentences and Probation on their Professional Day

Minister of Justice Paata Salia congratulated the employees of the National Agency for Crime Prevention, Non-custodial Sentences and Probation on their Professional Day and thanked them for their many years of dedicated and conscientious service.

In his address, the Minister highlighted the Agency's vital role in crime prevention, the enforcement of non-custodial sentences, the development of the probation system, and the rehabilitation and successful reintegration of persons in conflict with the law into society. He noted that the Agency's work is an essential component of public safety and contributes significantly to the effective functioning of a modern justice system.

The Head of the National Agency for Crime Prevention, Non-custodial Sentences and Probation, Nika Tskvarashvili, also addressed those present. He congratulated the Agency's employees on their Professional Day and spoke about the continued development of the probation and crime prevention systems, ongoing reforms, and the crucial role played by the professionalism, dedication, and commitment of every employee in advancing these efforts.

At the conclusion of the event, outstanding employees of the Agency were presented with certificates of appreciation in recognition of their exceptional contribution and exemplary professional service. The awards were presented by Minister of Justice Paata Salia and the Head of the Agency, Nika Tskvarashvili.

The event was attended by the Deputy Ministers of Justice, heads of agencies operating within the Ministry of Justice, Agency employees, and invited guests.

Minister of Justice Discusses Prospects for Deepening Cooperation Between Georgia and UNIDROIT with the Organization’s Secretary General

Minister of Justice of Georgia Paata Salia met with the Secretary General of the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT), Professor Ignacio Tirado, and Deputy Secretary General Professor Anna Veneziano, who are visiting Georgia.

During the meeting, the parties discussed opportunities to further strengthen cooperation between Georgia and UNIDROIT, as well as the significance of the organization's legal instruments. The Minister emphasized the growing importance of the unification of private law amid the expansion of international trade and cross-border commercial relations, both in Georgia and worldwide, highlighting the Ministry of Justice's role in advancing this process.

Professor Ignacio Tirado underlined the increasing strategic importance of the Middle Corridor and Georgia's pivotal role in promoting commercial and cross-border relations in the region, as well as in ensuring their modern legal regulation. He also spoke about the practical value of the international legal instruments developed by UNIDROIT and the benefits of membership in the organization.

The parties reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening cooperation between Georgia and UNIDROIT.

The International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT) is an independent intergovernmental organization dedicated to modernizing and harmonizing private and commercial law through the development of international legal instruments. Its conventions, model laws, and principles promote international trade, investment, and cross-border economic relations while contributing to the creation of a predictable, modern, and effective legal framework. The organization currently comprises 65 member states from nearly every region of the world, reflecting its global reach and international significance.

The meeting was also attended by First Deputy Minister of Justice of Georgia Beka Dzamashvili and Nino Mindiashvili, Head of the Ministry of Justice's Department of Contract Expertise and Judicial Representation.
